Ingredients of Happiness
Before we step into a new year, we want to offer something simple. Something grounding. Something learned the hard way.
When I was 18, I became homeless.
And in that season, when everything familiar fell away, I discovered what most people don’t realize until much later. When life strips you down to the basics, you understand what actually matters. I learned to be satisfied with food to eat and a place to sleep. Those two things alone were enough to quiet the mind and steady the heart.
And the truth is, they still are.
Research confirms this in a powerful way.
In the Bronnie Ware study on the top regrets of the dying, no one wished they had worked harder or earned more money. Most wished they had loved more and enjoyed life more. See the top regrets below:
1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard.
3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.
And the Harvard Study of Adult Development, the longest-running research on happiness, came to a clear conclusion. The happiest people were not the wealthiest or most accomplished. They were the ones with meaningful relationships, presence, connection, and the willingness to let simple moments matter.
When you put these insights together, a pattern emerges.
Happiness is not built on accumulation.
It is built on connection.
It is built on presence.
It is built on remembering that simplicity is enough.
As we head into the new year, we want you to carry one truth:
If you have food to eat and a place to live, you already have everything you need to be happy. Everything else is a bonus.
And often, happiness reveals itself in the simplest rituals.
For us, it is curling up on the daybed with a good book or a journal, immersing in the soothing sounds of nature and watching the evening sky soften. That quiet moment brings us a joy nothing else can match.
It is our sacred sanctuary.
A place where our hearts exhale and the world feels simpler, happier again.
As you enter the new year, we want to leave you with these questions:
What is your sacred sanctuary?
Where does your heart find peace and joy?
With warmth,
